Caulking and other sealants deteriorate, especially from sunlight, and should be periodically replaced. Check areas around windows, doors, and any penetrations through the wall. These areas will admit air, water, insects, and vermin into the wall cavity. Use the correct sealant for the job. Urethane-based caulks adhere better to masonry than silicone products. Deteriorated and missing sealant is one of many things checked during a home inspection.
