Radon Gas Testing
Radon is Silent, But Deadly
Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas that comes from the decay of Uranium in the soil and concentrates in the lower-levels of homes. The EPA considers the North Alabama and Southern Tennessee area to be at the highest risk level for Radon gas.
Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and is estimated to cause 21,000 deaths a year. Homes with high levels of Radon are common in our area and can be fixed by a professional. The government recommends that you test for this gas when buying a home, regardless of age, foundation, and neighborhood.
Integra is certified to test for Radon Gas and uses only NRPP-approved, professional-grade equipment calibrated yearly.
Get the Facts About Radon Gas
There are many misconceptions about Radon. Here are some facts.
- Homes with a crawlspace, slab, or basement are all vulnerable. Even the smallest crack or leak around plumbing in a slab is enough to permit the gas to enter the home. Crawlspaces are typically vented but this does not eliminate the problem.
- Radon levels cannot be predicted by neighborhood, regardless of what some real estate professionals say.
- Retesting is necessary. Even homes with existing mitigation systems should be retested every two years because conditions change constantly. The amount of Radon entering the home is not constant and can decrease or increase over time.
Government Resources:
Fast Results
Integra uses professional Continuous Radon Monitor (CRM) equipment that measures the home’s Radon level over a period of time, usually 48 hours. The CRM is typically set up at the start of the inspection and retrieved two days later, but can also be started two days before the inspection. The results are placed in your inspection report the same day the equipment is retrieved. If the results are above the Action Level, I recommend consulting a licensed radon remediator for further direction.
